The report, which was dicsussed by the  FAO Intergovernmental Group (IGG) on Tea , at its biennial  meeting  in Hangzhou, China, suggests that tea consumption has also benefited from increased awareness about the beverage's anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and weight loss effects. Such health and wellbeing benefits are seen as the key drivers of future consumption growth.

REPORT ON THE ZERO-GRAVITY INSTRUMENT PROJECT
Beihang University in China investigated the effects of simulated microgravity on the antioxidant enzyme system of Triticum aestivum (wheat) seedlings in order to understand the impact of microgravity on one of the core grain crops, which are important elements of the bioregenerative system for long-duration space flights. (...) Tarbiat Modares University in the Islamic Republic of Iran also investigated the effects of microgravity on some Iranian plants by measuring the activities of antioxidant enzymes. They used the following plants: Peganum harmala, Anthemis mazandaranica, Artemisia khorassanica, Salsola crassa, Malva sylvestris and Suaeda fruticosa.

The research team concluded that a switch to eating organic fruit, vegetable and cereals – and food made from them – would provide additional antioxidants equivalent to eating between one and two extra portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

Recently several significant studies have been published that seek to identify food quality differences between organically and non-organically produced food, focused primarily on nutrient density, antioxidant capacity, and pesticide residues. The application of this rapidly emerging research to nutritional diversity and its role in the context of food security around the globe will be an important consideration of the Centre.
