Up to the 48th conference in 1958, only five meetings were held outside Europe, four of which were held in the United States of America, and the fifth in Buenos Aires (1922); more recently conferences have been held in Tokyo (1964), Buenos Aires (1968), New York (1972), New Delhi (1974), Manila (1978), Montreal (1982), Seoul (1986), Broadbeach/Queensland (1990) and Cairo (1992); the remaining conferences were held in Europe. (...) During the reporting period (1990-1993) two conferences were held, one in 1990 at Broadbeach, Queensland, and the other in 1992 at Cairo. (...) The 64th conference of the International Law Association (Broadbeach), at its plenary session on 25 August 1990, condemned the actions of the Government of Iraq resulting in the adoption of Security Council resolutions 660 (1990) of 2 August 1990, 661 (1990) of 6 August 1990, 662 (1990) of 9 August 1990, and 664 (1990) of 18 August 1990, in particular the invasion and purported annexation of Kuwait, and the threats to the lives and security of third State nationals within the boundaries of Iraq and Kuwait, and strongly supported all lawful measures taken to enforce compliance with the decisions of the Security Council.

The development of the Asian Highway was initiated by ECAFE at its fifteenth session, held in 1959 in Broadbeach, Australia. This was done through the Commission’s full endorsement of the recommendation of the Highway Subcommittee at its fourth session, to take early concerted action to develop international highways within the ECAFE region. 4.

ACTIVITIES OF THE INSTITUTES OF THE UNITED NATIONS CRIME PREVENTION AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROGRAMME NETWORK
The Institute continued to operate the Drug Use Monitoring in Australia programme in Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth and Sydney; (e) During the year, the Institute worked with Thammasat University and Griffith University on research for the Thailand Institute of Justice, with a view to supporting the development of a national youth crime prevention strategy; (f) The Institute also continued to administer a series of criminal justice - related statistical monitoring programmes under which data on deaths in custody, fraud experienced by the Government of Australia and homicide are reported on an annual or biennial basis; (g) Through its criminology research grants programme, the Institute funded and published research on the use of closed-circuit television, body-worn cameras, investigating serious violent crime, Aboriginal prisoners with cognitive impairment, the reporting of crime to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex community police liaison officers, and perpetrators of online child sexual exploitation; (h) The Institute co-hosted two large conferences in 2017: the fifth International Conference on Cybercrime and Computer Forensics, held in Broadbeach, Australia, in July, and the thirtieth conference of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Criminology, held in Canberra in December; (i) During 2017, the Institute continued work on four research priorities: family and domestic violence, reducing the use of custodial sentences, the future of crime and justice, and the links between volume crime and organized crime.
