(...) “It is necessary to translate the wishes expressed in the SDG12 into concrete actions,” the ECA Director said. For her part, the Regional Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) for Africa, Juliette Biao Koudenoukpo, urged the ECA to take the lead in initiating dialogue with the African Union Commission (AUC) on key decisions that have been taken at continental level but remained to be implemented. Elhiraika Speaking at the 2019 African Economic Conference (AEC2019) in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt on 2 December, the ECA director stressed that Africa needs a “new vision that’s home-grown and can help us add value to our commodities and enable us to compete globally.”  (...) The African Economic Conference is jointly organized by the African Development Bank, the  United Nations Development Programme and the ECA. Since its inception in 2006, the AEC series has fostered dialogue and exchange of knowledge on a variety of issues and challenges facing Africa.

This was said Wednesday by the Director of Technology, Climate Change and Natural Resources Management Division of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Mr. Jean-Paul Adam, during a parallel meeting at the ongoing 7 th African Regional Forum for Sustainable Development (ARFSD). In her remarks to the experts whose meeting sets the tone for the ministerial sessions of CoM2022 on 16-17 May,    Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the ECA, Vera Songwe, said Africa had a unique opportunity to do things differently.
