“This is a huge accomplishment for Jordan, not only for the garment sector, as it can be implemented by other sectors and also outside Jordan,” said Dina Khayyat, President of the Jordan Garments, Accessories and Textiles Exporters' Association (JGATE). (...) Announced earlier this year, the contract is one of the main provisions of a sector-wide collective bargaining agreement signed in 2013 between the Jordan Garments, Accessories & Textiles Exporters’ Association, the Association of Owners of Factories, Workshops and Garments, and the General Trade Union of Workers in Textile, Garment & Clothing Industries. In 2015, a new two-year collective bargaining agreement for the garment sector was negotiated with the support of BWJ.
