UN Photo / Manuel Elias Steering Committee The Steering Committee of UNPDF was established by the Secretary-General to provide advice on the management and administration of the Fund. The Committee also ensures the formulation of a coherent programme for the projects and activities to be funded by Fund, and provide unity of focus, reporting and streamlining of efforts and agility in responding to the pressing needs of the international community. The mandate of the Steering Committee includes: proposing cost and action plan and identifying priorities of the Fund; prioritizing among projects and activities to be funded; identifying adjustments to the amount of funds to be maintained in the Fund; and monitoring and evaluating projects and activities.

Our funding base, today, is not fit to deliver on the 2030 Agenda. (...) Second, giving a new impetus to pooled funding to improve the quality of earmarked funds. We propose immediate action through two specific interagency funds – the new Joint Fund for the 2030 Agenda, capitalized at $290 million, and an increase in resources for the Peace Building Fund - as well as a commitment to double the current share of pooled funding from 8 per cent to 16 per cent.

Rather, it is about the quality of funding addressing high levels of earmarking and fragmentation in funding. (...) The SG spoke yesterday about the importance of these funding instruments. On the other hand, core funding as a share of overall development funding remains low, with almost no change between 2017 and 2019 (now 19.6%). Likewise, funding to flagship global pooled funds – the Joint Fund for the SDGs and the Peacebuilding Fund – remains much lower than the annual targets.
