As for the matter of the repair and restoration of sites of religious significance on the island (paragraph 23), I wish to draw Your Excellency’s attention to the insincerity of the Greek Cypriot side on the matter.

The Soria Moria Declaration of 2009 (Soria Moria II) states that the Norwegian Government will “work so that developing countries receive greater political policy space to formulate their own national development strategies, and strengthen the ability and opportunity of poor countries to promote their interests in the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank Group and the World Trade Organization” and that it will not only continue its efforts to make the World Bank and International Monetary Fund “more democratic”, but also “work for greater influence by developing countries, for example that the right to vote is not based exclusively on paid-in capital”.4 B. It commits the parties to support return to places of origin and acknowledges the parties’ principal responsibility for support to IDPs and returnees, as well as their obligations to act in accordance with national laws, international human rights law and humanitarian law, and refugee law where applicable.10 The policy framework identifies urgent needs, such as transport, road repair, food, shelter along routes, mine clearance, protection and health care. To improve assistance planning, United Nations agencies, International Organization for Migration, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) and other NGOs have been surveying IDPs’ intentions concerning return to learn about numbers, destinations and timing.

(...) According to the information received, the red sludge damaged 51 houses in Kolontár, 275 in Devecser and 39 in Somlóvásárhely, with 284 of them rendered beyond repair. Since the houses had been inundated with toxic substances, the National Directorate General for Disaster Management decided to have them demolished, thereby acting in conformity with the requirement of habitability as described by the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in its general comment No. 4.18 Approximately 1,000 hectares of soil was contaminated by the sludge, rendering it unsuitable for future housing developments (unless fully remediated).
