Article III*
National Treatment on Internal Taxation and Regulation
1. The contracting parties recognize that internal taxes and other internal charges, and laws, regulations and requirements affecting the internal sale, offering for sale, purchase, transportation, distribution or use of products, and internal quantitative regulations requiring the mixture, processing or use of products in specified amounts or proportions, should not be applied to imported or domestic products so as to afford protection to domestic production.*
2. (...) Moreover, no contracting party shall otherwise apply internal taxes or other internal charges to imported or domestic products in a manner contrary to the principles set forth in paragraph 1.*
3. (...) “The text of Article III:1 refers to the application to imported or domestic products of ‘laws,
regulations and requirements affecting the internal sale … of products’ and ‘internal quantitative regulations requiring the mixture, processing or use of products’; it sets forth the principle that such regulations on products not be applied so as to afford protection to domestic production.

On 19 August 2009, the Applicant filed a complaint with the Tribunal de
Grande Instance of Bujumbura on behalf of Iryumugabo Production against the CEO
of Up Beat Marketing for non-payment of the amount agreed in the contract dated 25
July 2009.
(...) He denied any conflict of interest resulting from the contract signed on behalf of
Iryumugabo Production and his position as a BINUB staff member providing services
in preparation for the same event.
12. (...) When imposing the disciplinary measure, the Respondent took into account
some mitigating circumstances such as the fact that Iryumugabo Production was
allegedly created in 2003, prior to the Applicant’s joining the Organization.

Products Industry Association (CNFPIA), ASEAN Expo and Nanning City Government and European
Forest Institute.
(...) The Initiative is committed to convening a strong coalition to enable institutional and
market conditions for recognition of sustainable wood benefits and curb illegal production and
consumption of wood products. CITES Secretariat has joined the Initiative in 2019, strengthening the
efforts to reconcile the international demand of wood products for a low carbon society and rural
development, through regulating the legal, sustainable and traceable trade of tree species listed in the
Convention’s Appendices.
(...) From the afternoon of 23 November until the closing session, participants will engage on facilitated
discussions on the trends of international trade and production, the role of legality in harnessing
sustainability in the timber sector, as well as ways to strengthen wood value chains through
international cooperation.
