(September 2016) Facebook Twitter Print Email Illegal bets add up to 1.7 trillion dollars each year: new UN report   9 December 2021 Law and Crime Prevention Up to $1.7 trillion is estimated to be wagered on illicit betting markets each year, according to a new report released on Thursday by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime ( UNODC ).   The publication, the first-ever Global Report on Corruption in Sport, asks for an urgent, unified and international response to fight malpractice and fraud across the sector. The ground-breaking new report was issued to coincide with International Anti-Corruption Day , marked each 9 December. (...) ‘Substantial increase’   Developed in partnership with nearly 200 experts from across government, sports’ organizations, the private sector, and academia, the report is the most in-depth review of its type to date.

The detailed discussion should focus on “good practices” in policies and measures of Annex I Parties in relevant sectors, including innovative market-based instruments such as domestic emissions trading, as well as domestic voluntary agreements and cross-cutting issues. Experience in the use of the UNFCCC reporting guidelines on annual inventories by Annex I Parties and alternative formats for sectoral background data tables 5A-D on land-use change and forestry of the common reporting format.

Kacwa (Uganda), commenting on the advancement of women in the public and private sectors (question 7), pointed out that since 1995 a gender-sensitive Constitution had done much to increase their participation in all spheres of life. (...) Special arrangements had been made for apportioning seats for women in Parliament, and it was mandatory for at least one third of local government posts to be filled by women. In the private sector, women were increasingly active in the microfinancing industry and most of the recipients of microcredit were women. (...) The Constitutional Review Commission was currently considering appeals by certain sectors of society, including the Uganda prison service, for abolition of the death sentence.
