We welcome the Special Rapporteur’s recommendations regarding the merger of the Irish Human Rights Commission with the Equality Authority; namely that the merger “must be accompanied by measures to ensure that the independence and active engagement of the body is maintained, particularly with respect to the appointment of Commissioners and the recruitment of staff, and the budgetary resources are increased to pre-budgetary adjustment levels.”

On 2 June, the Vice-Chairman of the Central Committee and Union Minister for Border Affairs, Lt-Gen Ye Aung, accompanied by several Union Ministers, the Rakhine State Chief Minister and other responsible officials, visited Kyaukpyu and Thandwe Townships.

The dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991 was accompanied by the collapse of the Communist ideology that had reigned for more than seven decades. (...) These reforms were accompanied by the establishment of an institutional framework for the investigation and prosecution of war crimes.

The 44-day war, launched on September 27, was accompanied by large-scale violations of international humanitarian and human rights law, war crimes and other mass atrocities by Azerbaijan.

The geographic expansion of the conflict and crisis zones all over the world has been accompanied by rapid increase of the number of people losing their lives and forced to leave their flats.

Although health departments are not over-staffed, INGO's application for travel permit and request of liaison was never being rejected, for instance nearly 700 field trips were arranged to be accompanied by liaisons in 2007. Visas have been granted lavishly for international staff from UN agencies and INGOs while visas for Myanmar citizens were rejected by some Western A/HRC/7/G/8 Page 5 countries. (...)
