Many schools across the region are now closed and assessments are ongoing so these numbers are likely to increase. “The Ministry of Education and Culture is pleased to be collaborating with UNICEF in establishing temporary classrooms across the region. UNICEF and the Ministry of Education and Culture and partners plan to open 450 temporary tent classrooms which follow UNICEF quality standards in the areas affected by the Sulawesi earthquake and tsunami.

The most vulnerable children and those unable to access remote learning are hit even harder, as they are at an increased risk of never returning to the classroom, sometimes forced into child labour and even child marriage,  according to UNICEF.  (...) Educational resources on marine biodiversity and conservation, renewable energy and sustainable development will be delivered aboard the mobile classroom to local schools and field study sites across New Providence, through BREEF’s " Young Reporters for the Environment: Giving our Marine Environment a Voice " project also funded through the GEF SGP/UNDP grant.
