It was common during the early Ayutthya period for royalty to adopt aspects of foreign cultures, particularly social customs and styles of dress. For example, the Royal Court in Thailand was influenced by clothing originating in the Iranian Plateau adopting styles of hats and footwear from the region.  (...) For example, in China ‘foreigners dress’ or hufu became very popular for high class men and women during the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907 CE).   Indeed, caftan style and design often reflected the close contacts between different societies along the Silk Roads. A number of examples of caftans uncovered at sites from a variety of different regions reveal the extent of these cross-cultural influences and exchanges, often reflected in design motifs, the materials used, and the context in which the clothing was exchanged and worn. Caftans have been found at numerous burial sites, often clothing those contained within then. (...) In some places it represented cosmopolitan dress for the elite, whilst in others it had close association with royalty, however for many people the caftan merely emulated the styles of the steppe and was clothing perfectly suited to horse riding and travel

This is reflected in distinctive artistic styles and craftsmanship that has continued to spread throughout various regions. (...) Initially, production of both silk twine and silk cloth could be attributed solely to those in the Far East. (...) In addition, the appearance of heraldic animals typical of the Sasanian style decreased, while flourishing arabesque ornamentation and scrawling vegetation were adapted from Far Eastern designs.

STATEMENT SUBMITTED BY THE INSTITUTE OF INTERNATIONAL SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT, A NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION IN CONSULTATIVE STATUS WITH THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL
After 3 years we feel such life style as prescribed by our agreement becomes their way of life and we withdraw supervision. (...) We promoted Kantha Stitch embroidery, a tradition of run stitch on cloths for infant-covers to other utility items. We promoted Terracotta utility items, we promoted dyeing of clothes with vegetable colours, which are all traditional and from locally resources — raw material and skill.
