According to professionals, children witnessing violence between parents may suffer a post-traumatic stress disorder that can seriously affect their cognitive and emotional development. Children who grow up in a violent environment are more likely to become victims of child abuse themselves and are also more likely to continue the cycle of domestic violence (as perpetrators or victims) when they grow up.16 13 H.
