(...) Migration is not a choice but a social phenomenon resulting from economic, political, environmental, and religious conditions in home countries. We have to ask ourselves what created those conditions in our home countries in the first place before we can actually truly create global migration policy that is effective and does not perpetuate and maintain those same conditions. As part of the Civil Society movement, our membership along with other organizations from the U.S. and around the world urge the UNHLD participants to take into consideration the following:  The institution of mechanisms to guarantee labor right for migrant workers equal to the rights of nationals, including equal pay, decent working conditions, ability to organize and form unions, social security benefits, and have access to a path to citizenship for migrant workers and their families.  An end to laws that criminalize migrants for working, regardless of status.   3    with NGOs, civil society and the private sector Informal interactive hearings United Nations General Assembly 15 July 2013  Recognition that as labor, goods and services move across borders in a global economy, workers too should have freedom of movement and protection of rights.  The need for implementation of policies to stem brain drain from developing countries, with investment in quality public services to create jobs and meet economic and social rights in home and host countries.  A guarantee of human security and human rights The lives and experiences of migrants are not a political game.

More than 1,500 troopers are knocking on the doors of families in evident poverty and hidden poverty in the 20 towns of the district with a very clear objective: to identify the social, health and economic alerts of these households to initiate the processes of redirection to services provided by the District.
