Corporate capture occurs when corporate interests extremely influence a certain policy issue, agenda or new legislation, often from the beginning and on an ongoing basis1. (...) In this manner, corporate lobbying opens the door to corporate capture and should therefore be addressed. (...) Mind the Gap supports exposing corporate lobbying practices and promotes lobby transparency to
help decrease corporations’ ability to abuse their power.

During the year 2004, and as a follow-up to the successful Round Table on Corporate Governance, held on 12 February 2004, the UNECE secretariat tried to learn about the corporate governance developments in the UNECE region, to establish a network of competent corporate governance experts and officials from private sector and the UNECE governments and to create conditions for a sustained and comprehensive work effort in this major area, including preparation of an official survey on corporate governance within the UNECE region.
3. (...) To organize the forthcoming Round Table on Corporate Governance, the UNECE secretariat has established working contacts with respective officials from the UNECE Governments and their regulatory agencies as well as the leading experts from private sector including the world leading corporations, stock exchanges, rating agencies, universities and consultancy companies. This network, which is now firmly in place constitutes a solid base for the further work on corporate governance in the UNECE region. The mentioned officials and experts also provided the UNECE secretariat with valuable insights into the corporate governance developments in the UNECE region with the identification of selected key issues.
