METADATA DRIVEN INTEGRATED STATISTICAL DATA MANAGEMENT SYSTEM : INVITED PAPER / SUBMITTED BY THE CENTRAL STATISTICAL BUREAU OF LATVIA
In order to cover all concepts commonly referred to as metadata, one can define statistical metadata as: “all the information needed for and relevant to collecting, processing, disseminating, accessing, understanding, and using statistical data”. 19. The data in the meta database, in essence, are information about micro and macro data, i.e. description of the numerical data within the statistical production process and the real world meaning of this numerical data. Also the system meta database contains a description of statistical surveys, their content and layout, description of validation, aggregation and reports preparation rules (...) If survey content and/or layout do not change, then the current survey version and its description in the meta database is usable for the next year. 28.

INTEGRATED META DATABASE AS A BASIS FOR DEVELOPMENT : SUPPORTING PAPER / SUBMITTED BY CENTRAL STATISTICAL BUREAU, CROATIA
The general architecture comprises several main elements in the integrated meta database. It consists of a description of the organizational structure, annual plan and publishing calendar, survey descriptions, classifications and some other elements. Beside the meta database stands a statistical database, in micro data and macro data versions. (...) Regardless if the program is so “universal” (1. option) to process the new survey and take the data (from the metadata) to “reorganise” itself, or, the program will produce another program (2. option), which is tailored to the new survey and get the data from the meta database. 23. Having that in mind, the important part of the meta database includes a “technical” description of the survey.

META TOOLS IN SUPPORT OF A CORPORATE DISSEMINATION STRATEGY / SUBMITTED BY STATISTICS NETHERLANDS
In section II we will describe the development of the tools around StatLine as the central feature in the corporate dissemination process. In this description, meta plays the key role. Section III then discusses the way the tools are actually used for enhancing coherence and accessibility of the package of statistics. (...) Statistical meta information describes the statistical data. The way we intend to process our data puts certain demands on the way meta data are processed. Therefore, we start with a short description of the statistical (output) process.

TOWARDS A WORK PLAN FOR TASK 3, TOOLS AND GUIDELINES : PROPOSAL / BY THE DELEGATION OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION
The use of this standard will at a later stage also enable access to distributed meta-databases if so desired. The European Topic Centre on Catalogue of Data Sources (ETC/CDS) has developed tools to collect and maintain such meta- information as well as tools for web-based retrieval and update. (...) Concrete steps to prepare the foundation for the Working Group’s recommendations in the above-mentioned context could be based on a practical four-level approach covering the following objectives in the newly independent States (NIS): (a) Collection of initial meta-information on available sources of environmental information and activities; (b) Description of data availability and data exchange; (c) Provision and use of GEMET; (d) Setting-up of environmental portals. 8. (...) Deadline: November 2001; (b) Providing the above-identified meta-information in a database, using as a description model the GELOS element set, and collection tools supplied by EEA.

The node meta‐model is shown as follows: Node metadata = {Identification, Characteristics, Capability, Quality, Space‐time, Working, Service, Administration, Constraint}. Among all the meta‐model components, identification and characteristics information are tessellations for sensor tag component, capability and quality information for performance, service information for service, and administration and constraint for accessibility.
