In 1991, Montreal became the first North American city to create the position of a design commissioner, dedicated exclusively to the development and promotion of design and to raise awareness among private and public sector stakeholders of the benefits of good design. (...) Strategies have been developed over the years to highlight Montréal’s designation as a UNESCO City of Design, such as ensuring better recognition for designers, improving access to public commissions for designers, raising awareness of the talents of Montréal designers and architects, and developing their markets. Efforts to broaden the use of design and architecture competitions have resulted in multiple calls to creative practitioners aimed at increasing design quality for buildings and public spaces.

Press Release of SZ+DAY 2015 Winners of SZ+DAY 2015 announced November 23rd, 2015 A DESIGN team from Austria stood out among 122 young designers or teams from 23 cities around the world that submitted their design entries for an international design award in Shenzhen, the Jury chair Professor Xiangning Li announced at a short ceremony in Shekou Shenzhen on 22nd November, 2015. (...) This year’s competition was themed “Transformation: the Mission of Design” and invited designers under 35 years old, and architects under 40 years old, to join in. (...) The project also aims to encourage exchange between young talents from different countries, cooperation between creative cities, and the sharing of experiences and ideas for developing creative and cultural industries. Coming from various design backgrounds, young designers submitted design entries ranging from product design to architectural design.

For this edition, Seoul: UNESCO Creative City of Design is invited as a honored guest city organizing an exhibition named Vitality 2014: “Beyond Craft & Design”, commissioner: Kyung Ran Choi, director of the OCDC, Seoul; the Vitality conference 2014 with the designers of the exhibition on March 12; an exhibition by Korean artist Lee Bull and Korean designers from the Museum of Modern Art, and a selection of Korean products in the Biennale shop, in cooperation with the Seoul Design Foundation.
