Despite some progress made in women’s health in the last decade, for millions of women and girls throughout the world, the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, including access to medicines, vaccines, commodities, equipment, other supplies, comprehensive primary healthcare services, health promotion and disease prevention, still remains a distant goal. In many instances, especially for those living in poverty and populations in vulnerable or marginalised situations, this goal is becoming increasingly remote.
The Forum, dedicated to “Post-2015 Desired Outcomes,” will identify the main challenges facing countries in developing and enhancing women’s health. (...) Special focus will be on desired outcomes of women’s health and development in the Post-2015 Agenda for implementation.

Despite having good national development visions, goals and strategies on paper, Malawi will remain under developed if there is no behavior change at all level: decision makers, politicians, programme planners and implementers, and grass root. (...) It also amazes me to see some projects being implemented based on political desires (gaining political mileage) rather than economic analyses.
(...) It’s only if we dearly love our country when we can translate the well crafted visions, goals and strategies into a reality, and consequently transform the country from the Kutsalira scenario to the Mkaka ndi Uchi scenario which is the desired state.

It is high time, the country needs to be result oriented, make decisions based on sound economic and/or technical analyses rather than political directives/desires. As a consequence, the increase in the number of children caused by mortality reductions eventually disappears as couples realize that fewer births are needed to ensure that their desired number of children survive to adulthood and as women and couples are empowered to realize their childbearing goals.

In sum, new view has emerged in which population and reproductive health matter substantially to the achievement of the goal of reducing poverty, the first of the Millennium Development Goals. (...) Women, who bear the brunt of the costs associated with higher fertility, should be able to make decisions that affect both family size and family income per capita.
While the goal of family planning policies should be to allow women to achieve their desired levels of fertility without coercion, there may be some scope for policies that affect this desired level.
