UNICEF South Sudan/de la Guardia Flood affected people are receiving essential supplies from UNICEF, colleagues in Plan International is helping with the distribution. With some helping hands from humanitarian colleagues, UNICEF has reached 113,000 people with life-saving assistance in the flood affected areas. North-east WASH response During the reporting week, 305 COVID-19 awareness and prevention posters were distributed by partners in Gwoza and Dikwa LGAs, while 20,362 persons were reached with hygiene promotion and handwashing campaigns in Gwoza, Jere, Dikwa, Konduga and MMC LGAs of Borno State. (...) Of this total, 11,922 persons (53%) were from conflict affected Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states, while the remaining were reached across the country. The programme distributed 40,2020 posters (7,027 in English, 18,387 in Kanuri and 14,788 in Hausa) that increased outreach on awareness raising on the prevention of SEA and the reporting channels. UNICEF supported the delivery of 3,000 mosquito nets to prevent malaria as part of survival kits, distributed in hard-to-reach areas to 1,500 families. UNICEF also distributed 18 community health workers medical kits for treatment of common illnesses in communities with IDPs of which 10 in Montepuez, 4 in Ancuabe, and 4 in Chiúre districts, reaching 4,500 patients. WASH In May UNICEF started a new partnership with the NGO Helpcode covering the hard-to-reach district of Mueda which will assist with distribution of interagency kits for 1,500 HH, construct latrines in transit centres and will provide access to water through network extension and boreholes rehabilitation.

Child Protection: To date, UNICEF and partners have reached 19,176 children and caregivers with community- based psychosocial support, and 11,857 have benefited from UNICEF-supported case management. (...) Furthermore, at least 86,473 people have been reached with WASH supplies. Examples of UNICEF-supported activities and people reached during the reporting period include the distribution of 1,020 WASH and dignity kits to 4,133 people in war-hit locations11 and the provision to partners in Kyiv oblast of 222 individual hygiene kits, containing adult diapers for people with special needs, and 6,600 water containers. A total of 100 families received mosquito nets and 434 children under age 5 were reached with immunization services, curative consultations, and nutritional screening. (...) In October, the school feeding programme supported by UNICEF in 24 public schools in Miranda state continued, reaching 7,693 children (3,842 girls and 3,851 boys). (...) During the reporting period: • Hygiene Kits: By the end of August UNICEF in partnership with MoNE, MoYS, Kilis Municipality, Turkish Red Crescent (TRC) and ASAM (NGO partner) distributed a total of 59,492 Covid-19 family hygiene kits, reaching 289,966 people, including 157,683 children (84,177 girls and 73,506 boys). UNICEF and partners are preparing for a second round of distribution of Covid-19 family hygiene kits, including PPE supplies, targeting 30,000 of the most vulnerable Syrian refugee and Turkish households in provinces with highest Covid-19 prevalence. • Psychosocial Support (PSS) Kits: By the end of August UNICEF and partners have distributed a total of 42,255 PSS kits, reaching more than 90,000 children across 33 provinces in Turkey. In August only, UNICEF reached 16,380 vulnerable Turkish and Syrian refugee children (9,363 boys, 9,284 girls) with distribution of PSS kits.

The WASH sector is initially targeting 177,000 poor and near-poor people and difficult to reach schools and health centers that are unable to access protected water sources. (...) To date, 124,914children under five were screened to detect acute malnutrition, which has reached more than the target of 120,000. The screening campaign has completed to reach the hard-to-reach children, who are normally not in any daycare centers or kindergartens. (...) To keep women and children safe from violence and abuse, injuries and life threats as well as to prevent family separation, UNICEF continues to convey protection in emergency messages to reach the most in need. As part of the education response, 900 emergency ECD kits arrived on 14 February 2021 which will be distributed to the most affected students and schools, mainly the remotely located satellite schools, benefiting an estimated 45,000 children.

THE SITUATIONEconomics and the International Year of Rice By the end of the 1990s, global rice production had reached 400 million tonnes in milled equivalent. Developing countries account for 95 percent of this total, and China and India alone for more than 50 percent. Global trade in rice grew at 7 percent a year throughout the 1990s, to reach 25 million tonnes. Again developing countries account for most of this figure, with 83 percent of total exports and 85 percent of total imports. (...) By the end of the decade, it had reached some 400 million tonnes in milled equivalent.
