  Child labour: ILO Celebrates World Day Against Child Labour in Jordan

Additionally, the event will advocate for renewed focus and accelerated action towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal target 8.7 which calls for the “immediate and effective measures to eradicate forced labour, end modern slavery and human trafficking, and secure the prohibition and elimination of the worst forms of child labour.”

COVID-19: Stimulating the economy and employment ILO: COVID-19 causes devastating losses in working hours and employment The COVID-19 pandemic is having a catastrophic effect on working hours and earnings, globally. A new ILO report highlights some of the worst affected sectors and regions, and outlines policies to mitigate the crisis. (...) This far exceeds the effects of the 2008-9 financial crisis. The sectors most at risk include accommodation and food services, manufacturing, retail, and business and administrative activities. (...) The updated version includes sectoral and regional information on the effects of the pandemic. According to the new study, 1.25 billion workers are employed in the sectors identified as being at high risk of “drastic and devastating” increases in layoffs and reductions in wages and working hours.
