A/HRC/29/38/Add.1 15-09758 6/22 abuses and exploitation that further contribute to the trafficking situation include breaches of contract, excessive recruitment fees, non-payment of salary, deductions from low wages, excessive working hours, a lack of rest days and the withholding of passports.

The Special Rapporteur heard numerous complaints that the police had used excessive force to arbitrarily arrest protesters for minor acts, such as stepping off crowded sidewalks, and had targeted them based on their race or ethnicity.
