Previous Girls in ICT Days Advertise your event Contact us Page Content 20 ​​​​​Ministry of Science, Technology and Tertiary Education​ Trinidad and Tobago, 2012, April 26 In celebration of Girls in ICT Day and the theme of World Telecommunications and Information Society Day 2012, "Women and Girls in ICT," the Ministry of Science, Technology and Tertiary Education (MSTTE) in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago embarked on an outreach tour to secondary schools throughout the country to raise awareness among students (female students in particular) of potential careers in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). (...) The tour's programme, which is both informational and entertaining, seeks to sensitize students to: The domestic and global ICT landscape; Employment and entrepreneurial opportunities in the ICT sector; Educational programmes/courses in the area of   ICT; The advantages  and challenges of a career in the ICT sector; and How to be cyber-smart and responsible as a digital citizen, and online safety Delivered through a blend of interactive discussions and multimedia presentations, the programme also provided students with the opportunity to win prizes and speak with established ICT professionals.  As female students were especially being encouraged to consider technology-related careers, many of the featured ICT professionals were women who shared their own career paths and spoke to the benefits of a technology-related career. It is anticipated that the success of Girls in ICT School Tour will contribute to the overarching goal of STAR.TT, which is to ensure that all citizens – young or old, wealthy or poor, male or female – are included in Trinidad and Tobago's burgeoning digital society and economy.

Previous Girls in ICT Days Advertise your event Contact us Page Content 20 ​Ministry of Science and Technology Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, 2015, April 23     On Thursday 23rd April, 2015, the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago celebrated International Girls in ICT Day, and recognised the ITU’s theme for April, ‘Girls and Women and Innovation’, by hosting a Coding and Design Workshop for female officers of the Ministry.  Titled ‘Tech Savvy – a Girls in ICT Coding and Design Workshop’ the day-long event, introduced members of staff to the fundamentals of algorithms and logical thinking; application development; and website design and development. (...) The Workshop, which took place at the office of the Ministry of Science and Technology, provided an immersive beginner workshop that introduced female members of staff to the core concepts of coding; application and website design; allowed for exposure to emerging technologies and concepts in a creative and collaborative environment; and inculcated proficiencies such as being cyber safe; managing personal online presence; and online shopping.

More than 50 women engineers from University of Zaragoza, most of the from the CSIC and private sector, visited primary schools to lead hands-on workshops with young students, both boys and girls, to show them how engineers work.
