(a) For the purpose of reviewing the application of the present Convention, there shall be established a Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (hereinafter referred to as "the Committee"); (b) The Committee shall consist, at the time of entry into force of the present Convention, of ten and, after the entry into force of the Convention for the forty-first State Party, of fourteen experts of high moral standing, impartiality and recognized competence in the field covered by the Convention. 2. (...) However, the terms of five of the members elected in the first election shall expire at the end of two years; immediately after the first election, the names of these five members shall be chosen by lot by the Chairman of the meeting of States Parties; (b) The election of the four additional members of the Committee shall be held in accordance with the provisions of paragraphs 2, 3 and 4 of the present article, following the entry into force of the Convention for the forty-first State Party.

Adoption of the agenda and other organizational matters In its resolution 52/231, the General Assembly decided that the preparatory work for its special session to be held from 5 to 9 June 2000, would be carried out by the Commission on the Status of Women at its forty-third and forty-fourth sessions and that those sessions would be extended by five days each to complete the preparations. (...) Preparations for the special session of the General Assembly entitled "Women 2000: gender equality, development and peace for the twenty-first century" The General Assembly, in resolution 52/100, decided to convene, in the year 2000, a high-level plenary review to appraise and assess the progress achieved in the implementation of the Nairobi Forward-looking Strategies for the Advancement of Women and the Beijing Platform for Action, five years after its adoption, and to consider further actions and initiatives. (...) In its resolution 52/231, the General Assembly decided that the high-level plenary review should be held as a special session of the Assembly for five days, from 5 to 9 June 2000. In resolution 53/120, the General Assembly decided that the special session should be entitled "Women 2000: gender equality, development and peace for the twenty-first century".

I urge States Parties to think creatively about the future evolution of the Convention and how to uphold its central role in preventing the misuse of biology for hostile purposes.   Forty-five years after its entry into force, the Biological Weapons Convention has the support of 183 States parties.
