As stipulated in the National Strategy, the Deinstitutionalization is a process of replacing institutional child care with family care or close to family care within the community, without restricting such a process to solely removing children from institutions. Following an assessment of the needs of 1797 children and young people with disabilities in these care homes, suitable community services to replace institutional care have been identified and 81 municipalities have initiated the process of developing such services. (...) The Project ‘I have a Family’ covers actions to decentralize and widen the scope of foster care and develops services in support of foster parents.

Many of the dialysis patients in the care of the hospital did not have permanent accommodation in Alice Springs, as they travel from their communities to access care. (...) ACCHSs provide comprehensive primary health care in a way that mainstream services generally cannot, and have guarantees to ensure accountability to the communities they serve, through the role of elected members;60 and as such, they were consistently cited during the mission as the preferred model of care. (...) The Special Rapporteur noted with approval the high standard of specialized health care within prisons, such as Long Bay Prison. Whilst he supports establishment of such excellent facilities, he is concerned about the inadequacy of primary health care resourcing throughout the sector in Australia.

Entre los logros de Family Care International figura el establecimiento en 1987 del Grupo interinstitucional sobre la maternidad sin riesgos, que reúne a varias organizaciones internacionales, entre ellas el Fondo de las Naciones Unidas para la Infancia, el Fondo de Población de las Naciones Unidas, la Organización Mundial de la Salud, el Banco Mundial, la Federación Internacional de Planificación de la Familia y el Consejo de Población, y tiene su secretaría en la sede de Family Care International.
