Medical devices: managing the mismatch: an outcome of the priority medical devices project
Medical devices: managing the mismatch: an outcome of the priority medical devices project
11 July 2010
| Technical document
Download (5.8 MB)
Overview
In order to improve global access to appropriate medical devices, the Priority Medical Devices (PMD) project, convened by WHO, developed a health based approach to medical devices. (...) And the third and final step was to link the results of the first two steps to produce a list of key medical devices that are needed for the management of the identified high-burden diseases, at a given health-care level and in a given context. (...) Of particular note was the almost complete absence of any mention of assistive products necessary to help improve functionality of people with these diseases.

Systematic review of needs for medical devices for ageing populations:
Systematic review of needs for medical devices for ageing populations:
commissioned to the Australian Safety and Efficacy Register of New Interventional Procedures – Surgical (ASERNIP-S) by the World Health Organization (WHO)
1 June 2015

Overview
Many medical devices are available that may benefit elderly people, although these devices may be expensive or may not be available in all countries. These factors impede equitable access to medical devices.
The clinical focus of this report has been defined as the five health conditions that cause the greatest loss of disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) for older people (defined as people aged 60–79 years) in the Western Pacific Region. (...) WHO Team
