The volume of wood removed from the region’s forests has been below the net annual growth increment in nearly all countries of the region for several decades (except for a few cases of massive windblow, where of necessity harvests exceed increment for one year). In Europe, fellings are 62% of net annual increment, with significant regional variations, and in Russia only 20%. (...) For a number of reasons, the net annual increment is not an accurate measure of potential sustainable wood supply, but it provides a general indication of the situation. 16.

(b) If a staff member with satisfactory service is changed :o a lower salary level, his service since the last increment shall be credited to- wards the next increment within the lower level. If a staff member whose service has not been satisfactory is changed to a lower salary level, his eligibility for salary increment in the lower level will be based on satis- factory service in the lower level. (quin) The calculation of carbon stock changes for the purposes of accounting for harvested wood products, if so elected, on land that is to be accounted for under either, reforested land or elected forest management land shall be based on the total increment of carbon stock growth in the eligible forest minus any changes in soil carbon, minus carbon stocks left over from timber harvest activities, minus carbon stocks from any wood residues from wood mills minus carbon stocks from wood products used for the purposes of paper, wood chips or other short-lived wood products, minus a carbon release estimate of harvested wood products produced and then destroyed during the commitment period times a conversion factor from carbon to carbon dioxide equivalent.

Also in relation to the ban on anti- personnel mines, under the CCW Protocol II, we have stressed our willingness to increment cooperation – especially in capacity-building and sending of health professionals – with countries in process of deactivation of their arsenals.”
