UNICEF’s work inside the camp
Inside Mavrovouni, aside from the more typical child protection programmes, UNICEF and its partner Watershed provide water and sanitation services to its 3.700 residents [1] , roughly a thousand of which are minors, thus ensuring not only that people have water for their daily activities, but also contributing to the fight against Covid-19. However, water management inside the camp is no easy task, as it requires a meticulous logistical coordination to transport 1.000 cubic meters of safe drinking water a day in the tanks inside the camp as well as hot water for the showers while extracting grey water from both the tap stands and showers. (...) Indeed, it was definitely smaller than most of its analogues, but the busses parked outside, the clean, reflective floorings of the silent hallways, and the small desks packed with children inside the classrooms brought me back to the memory of my own school years in Italy.

Palestinians in Syria’s Yarmouk camp now without aid for one month – UN
30 June 2014 – The United Nations agency charged with ensuring the well-being of Palestinian refugees across the Middle East has warned today that, despite reports of a truce between the Syrian Government and armed groups inside Yarmouk camp, it is still unable to carry out humanitarian operations there.
“It is now a month since we last distributed aid inside the camp,” Chris Gunness, spokesperson for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East ( UNRWA ), said in a news release yesterday. “Following reports of a 21 June agreement… inside Yarmouk, UNRWA is urgently seeking the resumption and expansion of its humanitarian activities inside [the camp], where conditions remain dire for the 18,000 civilians trapped there.”
