Economic security, governance and investing in truly universal public services
In his Nelson Mandela Lecture of July 2020, the UN Secretary General proposed a “new social contract” to address the impacts of the pandemic and the widespread discontent that preceded it. (...) The current crisis, however, represents a chance for Governments and other stakeholders to rethink old models and invest in truly universal systems that enhance economic security.
(...) These changes are, of course, ambitious and require substantial investment. Mobilizing domestic and international resources will be crucial.

“There’s no way Africa can build forward better if we do not make adequate investments in energy and ensure affordable access for all,” said UNECA Executive Secretary, Vera Songwe at the launch last week.
