Some of the questions addressed during the meeting included: how regional and international organizations can support affected States with technical, financial and material assistance to strengthen national capacities in countering IEDs; how to best target and impede local net- works that produce and set up IEDs for terrorist groups and terrorist affiliated armed groups; how national regulations mechanisms can reinforce the control and traceability of explosive precursors and ensure accountability of all involved in the supply chains; and how intelli- gence and surveillance capabilities can help mitigate IED threats. He extended an invi- tation to Member States to participate in the upcoming A4P+ event scheduled for 29 March 2021 in partnership with Netherlands where further discussions on safety and protection of peacekeepers would be discussed with the aim of seeking members’ contributions on how A4P would be improved. In his conclusions and recommendations, he pointed to the Secretary-General’s 2020 Report (A/75/175 https://undocs.org/A/75/175 ) on countering the threat posed by IEDs and re- quested Member States to enhance joint investigations and cooperation among customs, law enforcement and border agencies to identify and share good practices and strategies in com- batting the illicit diversion and trafficking of materials for IEDs. Overview of the current and emerging IED threat to our political and peace operations First, I would like to provide a brief overview of the IED threat environments our missions are operating in and how it affects our work. Several Special Political Missions and peacekeeping missions operate in such environments, including UNSOM, UNSMIL, UNOWAS, MINUSMA, and MONUSCO.

The Inquiry preliminary findings: The Commission is conducting a major inquiry into home care, which is investigating how well the home based care and support system in England is protecting the rights of people over 65.
