In Chile, more than 100 000 public lighting fixtures have been replaced in the last two years by the Chilean Energy Efficiency Agency (AChEE) within the framework of the massive replacement of 200 000 units promoted by the Ministry of Energy. The incorporation of new technologies such as the installation of LED and intelligent lighting systems, is changing the face of the energy sector in this area. In the first stage, Las Condes contemplated the replacement of 22 000 lights, each with a motion sensor, out of the 42 000 that exist in the commune.

It will need to be energy efficient with LED fixtures, have dimming capability, be networked and controllable from almost any location. (...) Daylight harvesting, that is maximizing the use of sunlight to minimize artificial lighting is also important. This is typically achieved using manual or automated shading, photo sensors in lighting zones and rooftop solar intensity sensors.
