ILO in Syria conducts training workshop focused on psychological support, rehabilitation and integration of working children

The ILO will hold a training workshop for child protection case managers at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour in the Syrian Arab Republic. The workshop will be held with case managers from the Directorate of Social Affairs in from the city of Homs, Syria as well as representatives from the Syrian General Federation of Trade Unions (GFTU), employers’ organizations, and local partners of The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNCHR) Al-Nada, Al-Namaa, and Child Care.

The Collective Bargaining Agreement: A Brief History
2008 – In efforts to promote labour management relations and improve social dialogue in the sector, Better Work Jordan helped to establish Performance Improvement Consultative Committees (PICCs) in factories participating in the programme. These committees, which have now spread to two-thirds of the 60 factories currently participating in the programme, consist of both management and union representatives and are responsible for developing and implementing the improvement activities of factories.

Violations In the northern city of Irbid, Suaad, worked for 11 years at a private school, but when the 33-year-old woman got pregnant, management terminated her employment. And as if that were not enough, her social security subscriptions had been paid for only 6 years of her service. (...) “One month into my maternity leave, management asked me to return to work. I could not refuse because I needed the job, and my husband was unemployed,” said Rasha, 30, an English-language teacher at a private school in the southern Red Sea port of Aqaba. She had to send her child to a daycare facility at her own expense because management did not provide workers with workplace childcare services.
