The basic hypothesis of the paper is that domestic market variables are the major determinants of economic growth in Brazil. (...) The former involved the removal of government obstacles to the operation of a freely competitive market; the latter focused on eliminating enterprise-level restrictions on the functioning of a free market, such as cartels and monopoly powers. (...) The European Union was its largest market, with 27% of the total. LAIA countries was the second largest market, buying 21% of its exports, and Mercosur countries represented 17 % of Brazilian exports (see table IV. 1).

High leverage and unbundling of risks through derivative operations would increase the effects that variation in certain corners of the market would have on global financial performance. This implies that a variation of opinions by agents willing to take risks, or a breakdown in that specific corner of the market, would also have a considerable multiplier effect. (...) Unstable access and outright rationing are thus alternative, interdependent mechanisms by which market failures in international finance affect the developing world.

HANDBOOK ON COMPETITION LEGISLATION :NOTE / BY THE UNCTAD SECRETARIAT
- In the area of abuse of dominance, dominant position is newly defined on the principle of market power of undertakings, which is based on more criteria than just the market share. Thus the market share still remains important, but not the only criterion for the assessment of the position of the undertaking on the market. The broader concept of “market power” also comprises in particular economic and financial power of undertaking, barriers to entry into the -6- market, the market structure etc.
