The Africa Marketplace Explorer addresses the lack of comprehensive information about marketplaces in more than 50 countries in Africa.
(...) Digital opportunities
The tool reveals that just 1% of Africa’s e-commerce marketplaces are responsible for 60% of the marketplace traffic on the whole continent. (...) Small businesses that want to make online sales need to use transactional marketplaces with safe payment solutions.
The world’s biggest marketplaces do not have a strong presence in Africa, which means there is more opportunity for local marketplaces.

COVAX Marketplace, intended to

current needs
1. WHO Global Vaccine Market Report 2019, 2020
Challenge Shortages in most critical input supplies identified by COVID-19 Vx manufacturers
Supply up to 14 billion doses by the end of
2021 – at least three times the pre-COVID19
annual global supply for all vaccines.1
Objectives The COVAX Manufacturing Taskforce has
developed a marketplace concept to improve
utilization of these scarce supplies by
• Providing suppliers with a broad
platform to (re-)allocate materials and
capacity slots becoming available through
further scaling or sudden shifts in demand
• Mobilizing idle stock from vaccines and
candidates that fail prior to gaining
regulatory approval – as well as from
those that might scale down their
production in the future
• Mobilizing potential surplus stock from
manufacturers with non-Vx activities
Launched in July 2021, The COVAX Marketplace – CEPI aims to facilitate manufacturing of
COVID-19 Vx doses for COVAX.

It is now estimated that Digital Marketplaces will impact 40 per cent of worldwide retail by 2020.
IoT-enabled Data Marketplaces face scepticism similar to that seen at the launch of e-commerce. (...) Auditable and adequate service-level agreements that can ensure that marketplaces deliver data of consistently high quality will become a defining feature of sustainable Data Marketplaces.
