MEDICAL CLEARANCES
Depending on circumstances and requirements as detailed below, medical clearance may be granted on the basis of a certificate of good health issued by a duly qualified medical practitioner, or a medical evaluation conducted by a designated medical officer of the United Nations system. Medical evaluation may include medical examination and diagnostic testing and/or review of medical questionnaires or reports, as determined by the United Nations Medical Director. 1.2 After initial appointment, medical clearance is required in the situations listed in section 4 below. (...) They shall also be required to furnish any medical certificates, documents and data as the United Nations Medical Director or a medical officer duly authorized by the Medical Director may request. 6.3 The recruiting office shall forward a request for medical clearance to the appropriate medical service defined in section 5 above.

Medical evaluation 1.2 The United Nations Medical Director will determine the requirements for medical clearance, which may include a health statement, medical history, physical examination, diagnostic testing and review of relevant medical reports. (...) Medical clearance for initial appointment 2.3 Initial appointments, regardless of duration, shall require medical clearance, as determined by the United Nations Medical Director. (...) If there is no authorized health-care professional at the duty station, medical clearance is granted by the medical service specified by the United Nations Medical Director.

MEDICAL EVACUATION
For medical evacuations expected to exceed 45 days, or for any extension of medical evacuations beyond 45 days, authorization must be obtained from the United Nations Medical Director. (...) All emergency medical evacuations to places other than recognized regional medical centres, medical evacuations by air ambulance, non-emergency medical evacuations, as well as all repatriations on medical grounds of military observers, civilian police and members of national military contingents require the prior approval of the United Nations Medical Director. Ince apparently had a well documented history of mental illness, and for the past 12 years he had received medication to treat his illness. Since his detention at MIDC, his doctors had allegedly increased the doses of his medication to nearly double the amount he was administered while earlier in prison (to nearly 600mg), and had added another medication, at a dosage of 200mg. (...) Ince allegedly experienced insomnia and anorexia since his medication regime was changed, with weight loss of more than 13kg since entering detention. Mr Ince attributed these physiological changes to side effects of the increased dosage of medication he was required to take at the same time.
