La riziculture irriguée est l’activité agricole principale : elle est pratiquée par environ 2 millions de ménages sur quelque 1.2 million d’hectares (60% de la surface cultivée) répartis en une quinzaine de grands bassins de production, tandis que la surface arable totale (cultures et prairies 1 FAO et UE, Madagascar - Price Monitoring and Analysis Country Brief, Food Security Information for Decision Making, January-April 2011, p.1. (...) Les superficies totales potentiellement concernées par les projets d'investissement à grande échelle annoncés depuis 2005 sont de 3 millions d'hectares, soit entre 15 et 37 % de la surface arable totale selon le mode de calcul adopté, alors que 2 millions d'ha sont aujourd'hui cultivés par environ 2,5 millions d'exploitations familiales. (...) La réduction depuis 2009 du montant global de l'aide versée n'a été que partiellement compensée par la hausse de l'aide humanitaire allant aux secteurs de l'éducation, de la santé et de la protection sociale, ainsi que de la sécurité alimentaire, passant de 180 millions USD en 2008 à 260 millions dollars E-U en 2010.

As at June 30, 2014, cumulative pledges to the LDCF amounted to $906.64 million. 16. Through the SCCF Adaptation Program (SCCF-A), the GEF has provided $240.99 million for adaptation pro- jects to date, totaling 57 projects approved for funding that have mobilized a total of $1.73 billion in co-financing. In the reporting period, SCCF-A grants amounting to $39.04 million were approved for seven stand-alone projects. (...) During the reporting period, the GEF financed, through the GEFTF, 39 EA projects, amounting to $25.1 million. In addition, the LDCF financed one new NAPA in the amount of $0.2 million. 19.
