Above all, this well-rooted respect of different cultures and languages is a fact of life, instead of an argument occasionally raised or used in favourable circumstances

The Government of Peru wishes to note that while it appreciates the interest shown by the Working Group in considering the difficult employment conditions of persons providing those services, as well as some of the problems that may occasionally have arisen in respect of other citizens, as previously mentioned it considers that these situations are already adequately monitored by the relevant authorities.

They are blindfolded and driven to unknown locations, including military bases, where the torture continues, consisting of a combination of: punches, kicks and beatings with sticks; electric shocks through the application of electrical devices such as cattle prods to their bodies, usually their genitals; asphyxiation with plastic bags; waterboarding; forced nudity; suspension by their limbs; threats and insults. Occasionally, days go by without anyone being informed of the detainee’s whereabouts or without the detainee being brought before the ministerial police or judicial authority. (...) The Constitution prohibits the consideration of evidence obtained under torture or in violation of fundamental rights and attaches safeguards to the accused’s statement for it to be admissible in court. Occasionally, however, judges admit evidence obtained as a result of torture or ill-treatment or postpone a decision on its admissibility to the final sentencing stage, while the accused generally remains in pretrial detention.

Furthermore, she welcomes the fact that homeless persons or residents of informal settlements have the right to a formal address (domiciliation) in order to be able to access social benefits and exercise other rights.49 She is, however, concerned that social welfare centres have occasionally refused to provide a certificate of residency to homeless persons or residents of informal settlements, thus excluding them from access to social support.50 B.

As a result many end up getting pregnant outside marriage and are often ostracized when they return to the north as single mothers. Reportedly, even the burial of deceased members of religious minorities in rural areas is occasionally met with the resistance of certain Orthodox groups who want the local cemetery (owned by the municipality) to remain free of graves of other denominations, such as Baptists, Methodists or Pentecostals. In addition, according to information received from different interlocutors, incidents of vandalism against Protestant houses of worship have occasionally occurred, such as the breaking of windows or the tearing down of walls during construction.

When dealing with the issue of street children, a distinction needs to be made between children who are occasionally found on the streets and children permanently living there. (...) With regard to children occasionally found on the streets, the Special Rapporteur received information according to which, in urban areas, most of them are forced to beg or perform other activities such as washing cars, selling small goods, loading and unloading merchandise, collecting recyclable objects, stealing or even prostituting themselves in order to help their families survive.

While the majority of Vietnamese do not belong to one of the officially recognized religious communities, they may nonetheless — occasionally or regularly — practise certain traditional rituals, usually referred to in Viet Nam under the term “belief”. (...) Catholic priests, too, seem to have occasionally offered religious services to prison inmates.
