Mauritius accedes to the Protocol: Just one Party missing for its entry into force

With Mauritius’ accession yesterday, 26 June 2018, the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products is now just one Party away from its entry into force on time to convene the first session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Protocol (MOP1) from 8 to 10 October 2018 in Geneva.
(...) In other words, the next Party joining the Protocol will allow history to be written.

(b) The party instituting the proceedings shall appoint two conciliators to be chosen preferably from the list referred to in article 2 of this Annex, one of whom may be its national, unless the parties otherwise agree. Termination
The conciliation proceedings are terminated when a settlement has been reached, when the parties have accepted or one party has rejected the recommendations of the report by written notification addressed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, or when a period of three months has expired from the date of transmission of the report to the parties.

12. (...) NON-RENUNCIATION OF BENEFITS
The partial or total lack of exercising any one of the agreements resulting from this contract by one of the Parties does not imply renouncing the benefits of this right or of any other right resulting from the present Agreement in the future.
15. SUCCESSORS
The arrangements of the present Agreement will benefit and apply to the heirs, successors and entitled parties of the undersigned. The legal representatives, successors, heirs and entitled parties of the undersigned are jointly held to respect the present Agreement.

In the case of an extraordinary meeting convened at the written request of a Party pursuant to article 17, paragraph 1, of the Convention or at the written request of the Bureau, it shall be convened not later than 90 days after the date on which the request is supported by at least one third of the Parties.
(...) A majority of the Parties designated by the Meeting of the Parties to take part in the body shall constitute a quorum, but in the case of open-ended bodies, one quarter of the Parties shall constitute a quorum.
