In 2009, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications supported the establishment of the Japan Internet Safety Promotion Association, which conducts child pornography prevention programmes and supports the efforts of the business sector to report and eliminate online child abuse material. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Education conducts awareness-raising and training activities for schools counsellors and social workers to strengthen early detection and to facilitate the referral of cases of child abuse.
