REPORT OF THE SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR ON THE RIGHT TO FOOD, OLIVIER DE SCHUTTER : ADDENDUM
Higher rates of obesity have resulted, as well as diseases such as heart disease and type-2 diabetes. Overweight is now “among the top five risk factors for loss of disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) in both developed countries and low-mortality developing countries (although underweight still ranks higher)”.27 Urbanization and the otherwise welcome development of increased employment of women leads to heavier reliance on foods prepared outside the home, including foods available from supermarkets.
