"Painting means life to me..."
“Painting means life to me, I don’t want to be separated from it,” said Solomon, as he displayed his sketches and drawings. (...) Even so, because art is a necessary thing for me, for my life, my friends and other people around me help in whatever way they can by providing some items for painting and drawing.”
Solomon has been drawing and painting since he was a young child. (...) “I honestly would prefer to spend everything I have on materials to paint. But life is very difficult and it is not easy to focus on painting when there are other really important things that are priorities for us, necessities for us to survive,” he said.

At the time of the donation, the Foreign Minister of Chile said that the painting testified to the great admiration and support the people of Chile had for the United Nations and its purposes.
Secretary-General U-Thant said the painting was an "expression in poetic and imaginative form of the essence and geography of the Latin American continent...and it's style and its scale are well suited to the sprit of the architecture of this house."

Persian Miniature
A Persian miniature is a small painting on paper, whether a book illustration or a separate work of art intended to be kept in an album of such works called a muraqqa . (...) Although there is an equally well-established Persian tradition of wall-painting, the survival rate and state of preservation of miniatures is better, and miniatures are much the best-known form of Persian painting in the West, and many of the most important examples are in Western, or Turkish, museums. Miniature painting became a significant Persian genre in the 13th century, receiving Chinese influence after the Mongol conquests, and the highest point in the tradition was reached in the 15th and 16th centuries.

A strong sense of balance and an expressive grasp of colour, this painting exemplifies Bores’ mid-career work and study of fauvism.
Francisco Bores (1898-1971) enrolled in the painting school of Cecilio Pla in 1916. He had his first exhibition in the National Fine Arts Exhibition in 1922 and within a year he joined the Ultraist movement. (...) In 1929, he lost favour with abstraction for a style he called “fruit painting”: a return to formality based in line, colour and light.
