For people whose lives have been uprooted and continue to be stressful the atmosphere in the room is often meditative as members settle into painting or drawing. In this class words and images are in constant flow. (...) In our arms we hold a sleeping baby called Miracle.
Painting Water
I paint the water of my home
I paint the land and the water I paint a bridge and the water flows under it
When I paint the calm water The noise of the world grows quiet The volume’s turned down
I start with the colour and let it flow blues and greens trickle into streams wash into lakes wave into oceans
Painting water is a freeing feeling start with the colour and let it flow splash trickle rain falls flows
Colour washes over me through me Into me I am bathing baby Fishing in the Indian Ocean Whale watching on the shores of childhood memories Sitting on the banks of the Niger Delta I am a boat man Feeling the force of waterfalls in Eritrea, Congo, Mauritius Painting water is a freeing feeling Start with the colour and let it flow
Islington Centre for Refugees and Migrants
This is the key that unlocks the door to my future, My dreams and desires, my heart, my life This key will be for my access, To open my mind, expand my brain... (...) A doorway to the sounds of voices learning to live again
Speaking, painting, drawing, writing, dancing, healing A doorway to and from people's stories that should be told.

The composition's background represents the threat of war, hatred, and darkness, whereas the sun in the top right of the painting represents the dove of peace, free and triumphant, breaking through to clear days ahead. (...) This is interrupted by the black vertical strip in the foreground of the painting. It represents the threat of war that has the potential to put humanity in danger. (...) The Maltese artist, Emmanuel Cremona (1919 – 1987) painted the gift as a tribute to the work being done by the United Nations.
