Competency-based vocational training programmes launched in Lebanon by Safadi Foundation and ILO The programmes will train young women and men on agri-food processing, welding, plumbing, and elderly home caregiving, including post-COVID-19 care. (...) A total of 64 young women and men have started training in agri-food processing, advanced welding, and elderly home caregiving, including post-COVID-19 care, and 16 more will be enrolled in advanced plumbing. They were selected based on pre-enrollment career orientation using SkillLab – a mobile app which allows to capture and express skills gained through various learning and work experiences – to ensure that training topics match their skills sets and professional goals and aspirations.

As of this moment, there are 97 beneficiaries actively engaged in vocational training, building capacity in wall and floor tiling, general agriculture, and plumbing focused on irrigation and drainage for agriculture. In addition, students are also trained in domestic pipefitting and residential plumbing. By so doing, there are more opportunities for them to become gainfully employed or to stake their claim in entrepreneurship.

  Clean water flows to school in rural Timor-Leste for the first time in ten years | UNICEF Timor-Lest

Initially, people thought that it would require highly sophisticated equipment and support from engineers to install the plumbing works. However, a team effort by parents, school staff and community members has helped ensure the school now has clean running water. They purchased plumbing materials, dug a channel to divert water, installed and connected the pipeline to the main water source, the water tank and handwashing and other facilities.
