RENOVATION TO THE RESIDENCE OF THE SECRETARY-GENERAL : REVISED ESTIMATES TO THE PROGRAMME BUDGET FOR THE BIENNIUM 2006-2007 : REPORT OF THE SECRETARY-GENERAL
The ageing of the building and obsolescence of its mechanical, plumbing, heating and cooling systems have resulted in malfunctions requiring increasingly frequent emergency repairs. (...) The last significant renovation of the residence in 1950 did not address the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling systems, which have since deteriorated significantly. (...) With the exception of repairs done where limited renovations (bathroom and kitchen) prompted the replacement of small portions of plumbing lines, there has been no major upgrade or replacement of the plumbing system since the building was constructed. 7.

ANNUAL REPORT OF THE UNITED NATIONS HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS AND REPORTS OF THE OFFICE OF THE HIGH COMMISSIONER AND THE SECRETARY-GENERAL :WRITTEN STATEMENT / SUBMITTED BY SOCIETY FOR THREATENED PEOPLES
However, because of historical imbalances in infrastructure projects, race is an important predictor of indoor plumbing access in the country. The persistence of health disparities for American Indians is also evident in ways that could affect their susceptibility to COVID-19, such as the fact that they are three times more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes than white people. (...) COVID-19 cases were more likely to occur in tribal communities with a higher proportion of homes lacking indoor plumbing, i.e flush toilet, hot and cold water, and a tub or shower. While American Indian households on tribal reservations are 3.7 times more likely to lack complete indoor plumbing relative to all other households in the United States, this average obscures differences among reservations with some experiencing much higher rates of incomplete plumbing facilities, such as the Navajo reservation.

“Girls were also trained in the installation and maintenance of the alternative energy sources that include solar and plumbing, thereby contributing to an increased in the number of skilled labourers available at neighbourhood level to address plumbing and energy issues. Before the training, men formed the majority of skilled labourers in the energy and plumbing sectors,” said Ms Comporé . Recognising the urgent need to improve the living conditions of people living in slums and informal settlements, Government requested the Participatory Slum Upgrading Programme (PSUP) for technical support.
