They are particularly numerous in Bangladesh, China and Southeast Asia but are also popular in Egypt, Nigeria and much of Europe, particularly in western France. Breeds vary greatly depending on location and whether they are specialized for meat, egg or feather production or whether they are multipurpose. They are raised in a great variety of production systems ranging from small numbers of birds held in mixed farms, to vast flocks that are transported in lories to clear up paddy fields following rice harvests.

An all-star “Ghana Loves Haiti” benefit concert was held in Accra on 23 January, and a national text messaging campaign has been launched to raise funds from the Ghanaian public.
Coumba Gawlo Seck, a popular Senegalese singer, has proposed that she and other artists record a song in solidarity with Haiti, with all proceeds going to the Haitian people. (...) Several Pacific island countries are on their way to becoming healthy islands through key measures such as raised taxes on tobacco products. Pacific Islands will celebrate achievements in tobacco control and advocate for scaling up action on World No Tobacco Day on May 31.
(...) The theme of 2014 World No Tobacco Day is raise tobacco taxes. Raising taxes on tobacco is a proven method to reduce tobacco use –particularly amongst the young. (...) Decreasing use results in decreased disease and death. Likewise, raising taxes on tobacco increases revenue.
Since the WHO began to focus on raising tobacco taxes as a cost effective approach to reducing tobacco consumption in the Pacific, 7 Pacific islands have raised taxes on tobacco products (Cook Islands, Fiji, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands and Tonga).

In November 2018, UNICEF country office in Argentina and Hayastan All-Armenian Fund signed a collaboration agreement to raise funds in Argentina with the objective to improve the health, education and protection of children and adolescents in Armenia. (...) Altogether 9,262,000 Argentine pesos were raised for Spitak.
In 2019, these funds will be directed to four programme areas. UNICEF is already building Spitak’s first inclusive playground for children and adolescents with and without disabilities and working to raise the quality of pediatric services in the city.
