Cuba also expressed its desire to sign the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, thereby reaffirming its commitment to the premises of both instruments, a commitment that it assumed when it supported their adoption by the General Assembly. Individual farmers include farmers who own their own land and those who till small plots of land provided by the State for their own consumption; (b) The members of the 2,497 Basic Agricultural Production Units (UBPCs) are engaged in cooperative farming of State lands, which are provided free of charge for an indefinite period, and retain the proceeds of what they produce; (c) The 1,099 Agricultural Production Cooperatives (ACPAs) are collective production enterprises of farmers who voluntarily combine their lands and means of production in order to work the land collectively; the proceeds are also distributed collectively; (d) The 2,257 Credit and Service Cooperatives (CCSs) are composed of approximately 150,000 small farmers who retain ownership of their land, means of production and harvests and join together to produce, receive and make rational use of the material resources, financial credits, services and technical assistance provided to them by State enterprises; (e) Producers sell a contractually established portion of their output directly to the State enterprise ACOPIO and are free to sell the rest.

Most of them saw their desire for a better life blocked by discriminatory attitudes that prevented them from being successful at school, obtaining employment or participating in public life. This desire to integrate and find a better life may act as an incentive for relinquishing their indigenous identity. 32. (...) In addition, the gathering and selling of forest produce did not generate enough income because the Bantu population only bought vegetables and other forest produce at very low prices and indigenous peoples lacked the means to transport their harvest to busy markets. 58.

• Accordingly, the project seeks to (i) identify gaps and needs of the participant countries to form the basis for work under latter phases in the preparation of draft legislation or other measures implementing the Convention and, where relevant, the Stockholm and Rotterdam Conventions; (ii) produce tools to facilitate the development of legislative and regulatory measures to address obligations under the Basel Convention and, where relevant, the Stockholm, Rotterdam, Bamako and Cartagena Conventions, and to draft implementing legislation or regulatory measures for the participant countries; and (iii) develop training materials for agencies (competent authorities and focal points, legal professionals, enforcement agencies) engaged in implementation and enforcement, and to delivery training workshops on enforcement (...) • The Secretariat received the endorsement of eighteen countries that are classified as Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, or Small Island Developing States, expressing their desire to participate in the said project. With the support of the Digital Culture programme, each Culture Point receives a basic multimedia studio enabling it to operate a radio station, register information in digital formats, produce videos, design websites, and use free software programmes. In the Aldea Te'Yikue in the municipality of Caarapó (Mato Grosso do Sul State), the independent expert visited the Teko Arandu do Sul culture point project, where Guaraní indigenous people benefiting from this programme produce videos in their own language, document their own cultural practices, and maintain contact with Guaraní communities in Bolivia and Uruguay, as well as within Brazil. Ensuring the cultural rights of persons belonging to specific cultural communities who differ from dominant majorities (Afro-descendent communities, indigenous peoples and other groups) implies providing them with the possibilities for bringing their own individual and collective cultural viewpoints to the shaping of cultural and social developments, while preserving in parallel those elements of their culture that they desire to maintain. It also implies promoting and protecting the rights of minorities and indigenous peoples recognized at the international level, which protect minorities and indigenous peoples' cultures understood as a way of life, including their language, religion and system of beliefs, traditions, customs and other artistic and cultural manifestations. 1.

The use of protection orders has not reached its full potential, as they depend in part on the victim being able to produce evidence of physical harm, instead of relying on an objective risk assessment based on the victim’s statement.

A study made by WHO and chaired by a former Nobel laureate31 found that a nuclear war between the two major nuclear-weapon countries could kill 1 billion people outright. It could also produce a nuclear winter that would probably kill an additional 1 billion people. 54. (...) Signatories also expressed their desire to ease international tension and to strengthen trust between States in order to facilitate the cessation of the manufacture of NWs, the liquidation of all existing stockpiles, and the elimination of NWs from the national arsenals. While items (i) and (ii) of the article remained the same, item (iii) was expanded to criminalize any pose of a child wholly or partially naked and “whose sexual body parts (genital organs or the parts around them, buttocks or busts) are exhibited or emphasized” and arouse or stimulate the viewer’s sexual desire. Despite the modification, item (iii) is considered ambiguous, since material that would fall under this category (for example, child erotica) is considered legal. Moreover, the legal requirement common to the two last types of child pornography (“which arouses or stimulates the viewer’s sexual desire”) is interpreted in a restrictive way, and hence applied in extreme cases. The initiatives of stakeholders point to the desire of farmers, industry and people all across Canada for a national food strategy. (...) The long-term depression of farm-gate prices in relation to input prices and the cost of living means that margins are constantly tightening, forcing farmers to raise production levels simply to maintain income levels. To produce more, farmers have to purchase more land and chemicals, buy bigger equipment, increase herd size, and take on more debt.
