Following some discussion, the Committee agreed that risk profiles fell into three categories: profiles which contained ample information, such as the PFOS risk profile; those which lacked scientific certainty, such as the chlordecone risk profile; and those which could be reinforced with more information, such as the hexabromobiphenyl risk profile.

To meet this objective, the Committee will: (a) For each of the draft risk profiles developed by the working groups established by the Committee: (i) Adopt, with any amendments, the risk profiles; (ii) Decide, in accordance with paragraph 7 of Article 8 of the Convention and on the basis of the risk profile, whether the chemical that is the subject of the risk profile is likely as a result of its long-range transport to lead to significant adverse human health and/or environmental effects such that global action is warranted and that the proposal should proceed; (iii) Agree, depending on the decision taken under (ii) above: a. (...) I believe that this initial discussion needs to take place before consideration of the draft risk profiles and the newly proposed chemicals since the issues are common to a number of them. (...) The Committee will then consider each of the draft risk profiles before it. For each: (a) The Chair of the working group that developed the draft risk profile will present it to the Committee; (b) The Committee will be given the opportunity to ask clarifying questions about the draft; (c) The Committee will discuss the draft risk profile and the question of whether the chemical that is the subject of the profile is likely as a result of its long-range transport to lead to significant adverse human health and/or environmental effects such that global action is warranted; (d) The Committee will likely establish a contact group to develop a draft decision that includes the elements listed in paragraph 2 (a), above, for possible adoption by the Committee later in the week. 9.

Following that, the Country Profile will be published. The work on the Country Profile of Kazakhstan is ongoing. 34. (...)
