We in Ethiopia have been consistently demonstrating strong political commitment and leadership to eradicate poverty through promoting rapid and inclusive growth. Through our development planning, we have created the opportunity to mainstream and effectively implement global and regional development goals, including the Istanbul Plan of Action. Despite the rapid economic growth during the last decade, however, there are structural issues which pose challenges for the sustainability of our rapid economic growth. These challenges include slow structural transformation of the economy and a poorly performing export sector.

One of them is the Rapid Integrated Assessment (RIA), which makes it possible to assess the extent of inclusion of Sustainable Development Goals intended to be achieved by 2030 (SDG-2030) in the country's strategic planning. That is why UNDP is now modifying its approach to Rapid Integrated Assessment by creating the RIA+ tool, which is designed to assess whether existing funding meets the targets for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

“I could not master the basic knowledge of rapid testing, including related rules and regulations, major techniques and the use of toolkits. (...) As part of the Improving agro-industrial practice and capacity for poverty alleviation in Quannan  project, which began in early 2019, UNIDO has transformed the rapid-testing rooms in Quannan’s farmers' markets and has provided training on how to carry out effective rapid food-testing.   The rapid-testing room at the Jiangpanwan farmers’ market has been equipped with modern rapid testing instruments and reagents (chemicals that indicated the presence of a substance, usually by changing colour).

However, the disruptive nature of these technological innovations, the rapid pace of the transformation, and the increased complexity and interdependence of today’s economies and societies, create difficulties in planning for and predicting the future. In response to the urgent need to drive rapid decarbonization across the global economy, a group of energy buyers, energy suppliers, governments, system operators, solutions providers, investors and other organizations has joined together to accelerate the decarbonization of electricity grids by adopting, enabling, and advancing 24/7 Carbon-free Energy (CFE). 24/7 Carbon-free Energy (CFE) means that every kilowatt-hour of electricity consumption is met with carbon-free electricity sources, every hour of every day, everywhere. It is both the end state of a fully decarbonized electricity system, and a transformative approach to energy procurement, supply, and policy design that is critical to accelerating its arrival. (...) Achieving it will require a concerted and targeted effort by all stakeholders to develop and scale the energy policies, technologies, procurement practices, and solutions to transform the broader energy ecosystem to enable rapid and cost-effective achievement of 24/7 CFE for all.
