Introduction Charlands in Bangladesh are pieces of land resulting from the accretion of silt in river channels. They are an outcome of the dynamic metamorphosis of the rivers in the country. The entire country is a delta located within the flood plains of three great rivers: the Brahmanputra-Jamuna, the Padma and the Meghna. In addition, there are more than 230 rivers which criss-cross the country. All these rivers are either contributory or distributory channels of the three main rivers.
