“When I left the World Bank I knew there was a job uncompleted,” Ms. (...) Some of the takeaways of the Seminar are:
open data platforms provide free access and use of data for purposes of transparency, accountability and daily decision making;
it is important to ensure that the principles of data rights and access are matched with strict ethical and security protocols;
advanced technologies and approaches to data architecture and management will facilitate and enable the efforts to making data more open;
collaboration with civil society is critical in such areas of principles, readiness and evaluation of openness of data whereas collaboration with academia and technology companies is essential for building portable and interoperable common technology infrastructure as a public good.

Control measures for captive wild birds should be based on strict movement control, isolation and only when necessary limited culling of affected flocks, according to FAO.
(...) Nevertheless, FAO is making the following recommendations:
dead birds should not be handled or prepared for food
authorities should be notified of any mortalities
bird carcasses should be properly disposed of after sample collection
standard hand hygiene practices should be followed by anyone who might come in contact with bird droppings or dead birds
swimming in water that is potentially contaminated should be avoided
any poultry product for consumption should always be thoroughly cooked.

That recommendation was well based, as the Special
Rapporteur ought to be in the business of protecting victims, and it was important to stay with
“the language that helps us to do that”.1
In the United Kingdom where the laws are strict, the most senior Muslim police officer, Iranian
born Metropolitan Police Commander Ali Dizaei was suspended for the second time in
September 2008 amid fresh misconduct allegations. (...) The negative developments following the Durban
Conference, the strict and humiliating measures taken against migrants by the West, the
publication of insulting caricatures of the Prophet of Islam, the rise in Islamophobia and
appearance of new forms of racism, all on the pretext of the war on terror, have all caused a
gradual rise in popular protests and objections against America’s actions across the world. (...) More than 200,000 US public school students were punished by beatings during the 2006-2007
school year, Human Rights Watch and the American Civil Liberties Union said in a joint report
released on 19 August 2008.

To be sure, civil society has always had a role in operational assistance, and on policy, it has had a longer history in the field of human rights for instance than strict migration policy. This has changed over the last few years, and large international NGOs such as Human Rights Watch, for instance, have clearly stated their interest in gaining access and a platform within
