They will be available to discuss with participants about their innovation and success story, and talk in an informal way about the constraints they faced, as well as the drivers that led to innovation and success. Presenters will do the same from 12.30-14.00 on the second day, 22 November.
Selection of success stories
Most of the success stories came from a call for FAO staff to propose success stories of agricultural innovation based on their wide experience and knowledge in different fields of expertise and regions. (...) Most of the success stories selected for the Innovation Fair are not from FAO’s work.

Although African projects were slightly less successful than in Asia – the most significant difference was between generating sensible equity returns (only 15% success, and 15% moderately successful), and the fact that ultimately most of the investments (70%) finally delivered a long term economic benefits
African vs. (...) ‘Turn arounds’ might ultimately result in a sustainable business generating economic benefits, but financially the risks are high.
% Financial Viability : Success & Modest success
% Development Impact : Success & Modest Success
Nucleus estates (NES) with out growers provided the most successful business model – but for a limited range of industrial crops (oil palm, sugar, tea, rubber), followed by processing. Pure out grower schemes were broadly about as successful as estate farming operations. Asian out grower schemes worked particularly well.
% Development Impact : Success and Modest Success
% Financial Viability : Success and Modest Success
Summary of lessons learned The private sector takes on huge financial risks when it invests, esp.

I believe success ought not to be measured at the end of one’s life but that we all can and are successful at different stages and phases of our journey. Ultimately, success would be fulfilling my God-given purpose and cause in life. Are you there yet? (...) As it is an ongoing continuous paradigm, we seek to continually achieve success after success at the different stages of our vision pursuit.Who and what have been most helpful to you throughout your journey?

Farm-Success project summary report
Training farmers for sustainable succession processes
This report is a background brief of current succession processes on family farms in Europe, consisting of data gathered from questionnaires and open interviews, to inform the Farm-Success Project. (...) The Farm-Success Project develops strategies to train farmers for a sustainable succession process in order to enable and to motivate young farmers to continue the family business of their parents. This report is a compilation of national data on current succession practices on family farms from those countries involved in the Farm-Success Project (the EU, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic and Slovenia).
