REPORT OF THE SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR ON THE HUMAN RIGHTS TO SAFE DRINKING WATER AND SANITATION ON HIS MISSION TO MEXICO :NOTE / BY THE SECRETARIAT
The lack of continuous and sufficient access to water is also related to overexploitation of aquifers3 for reasons including the need to supply water-intensive residential, industrial, agribusiness, touristic, extractive and developmental projects. (...) For example, in locations where piped water offers only sporadic and unreliable supply, communities are heavily reliant on local rivers, springs, creeks and wells for their water consumption. (...) In some communities, a water supply network exists but is not sufficient or not functioning.

LETTER DATED 27 APRIL 2022 FROM THE PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ARMENIA TO THE UNITED NATIONS ADDRESSED TO THE SECRETARY-GENERAL
The distortion of the identity of the Armenian heritage is an attempt of cultural looting, which is a vivid example of a gross violation of relevant international legal instruments. (...) Khachkars were destroyed in Hadrut (Arakel village), Kubatli, Mekhakavan (Jabrayil) and cemeteries were desecrated19. One of the latter’s vivid illustrations is the destruction of the cemetery of the Avetaranots’ village (Askeran region). (...) Azerbaijan’s attempt to impose its own geographical names on the historical Armenian territories in Nagorno-Karabakh As part of its broader campaign aiming at falsifying Armenian history and appropriating Armenian cultural heritage by labeling it as “Caucasian Albanian”, Azerbaijan is also attempting to change the geographical names of historic cities and regions of Artsakh and impose its own geographical names. The recent vivid example of this phenomenon is Azerbaijani’s request to Google’s parent company, Alphabet Inc., to change the “fake” Armenian names in Google Maps to Azerbaijani names43 (23 De- cember 2021).

VISIT TO ITALY - REPORT OF THE WORKING GROUP ON THE ISSUE OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND TRANSNATIONAL CORPORATIONS AND OTHER BUSINESS ENTERPRISES
This model, combined with the suppression and/or reduction in the protection of workers’ rights and their bargaining power, make the supply of labour across borders acutely vulnerable to abuse. (...) The Working Group welcomes the efforts by the Government to map the supply and demand of labour in order to adopt more effective measures to fight illegal recruitment practices for labour exploitation. (...) The lack of transparency in supply chains hinders the identification of commissioning companies and the beneficiaries of such exploitative labour practices. 36.

REPORT OF THE SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE OF THE SECRETARY-GENERAL ON THE ISSUE OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND TRANSNATIONAL CORPORATIONS AND OTHER BUSINESS ENTERPRISES : ADDENDUM
There were no end-user-related cases in this grouping; however, as stated previously, the sample contained lower numbers of cases alleging impacts on this group. 41. Supply chain cases stood out from other indirect cases because the companies’ connection to alleged abuses remained constant: firms, although a step removed, were viewed as responsible for human rights abuses in their supply chain. (...) The following two examples illustrate allegations of abuse in a firm’s supply chain, allegations that made up the majority of indirect impacts on workers. 1. (...) A group of major supermarkets in the United Kingdom were alleged to benefit from sub-par working conditions and standards in their supply chains in Bangladesh, Costa Rica, and India.

SPECIAL SEGMENT
The vulnerability of our water supply and demand systems resulting from poor governance affect the health of land. (...) Such supply is often hindered by the lack of access to resources, including equipment and energy, as Mr. (...) Salter from Aduna stressed the importance of not only working on the supply side, but also of engaging with consumers to build awareness and increase demand.

VISIT TO ITALY :REPORT OF THE SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR ON CONTEMPORARY FORMS OF SLAVERY, INCLUDING ITS CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES
The agricultural sector is characterized by difficult working conditions, low prestige and low pay; it requires mainly seasonal workers and a supply-and-demand mechanism that is ultra-flexible.9 It is based on a mode of production that involves multiple actors throughout the supply chain, including multinationals, corporations, large-scale distribution companies, temporary agencies, transport companies and wholesalers, which aim to curtail the costs of production in order to increase profit margins. (...) Firstly, the seasonality of agricultural work leads to temporary demand for workers, often at short notice, while the need for flexibility in the labour market leads to difficulties in matching supply and demand. Public employment centres do not address the needs of employers efficiently and, as a consequence, caporali are used to ensure that labour needs are met. 44. (...) Many of the Special Rapporteur’s interlocutors mentioned that organized crime penetrates the agricultural sector “from soil to store shelves”, meaning from production through supply chains to distribution. Concretely, organized crime is involved in land hoarding, fraud, illegal hiring, labour exploitation and illegal transport. 81.
